At Norway’s Bergen Aquarium, a female Gentoo penguin added an unusual third egg to her normal clutch of two. Since the first two eggs had been laid a month before, they would hatch first and would have crushed the third if it was still in the nest. So the aquarium staff decided to try giving the egg to Pondus and Herman Piele, two male Gentoos who, after fathering chicks with females in the conventional manner, had set up a nest together and were looking after it as if they were expecting to raise a family.

The egg hatched.

After members of the public responded – in large numbers! -- to a newspaper’s request for suggestions, the chick was named Pride. And, a year later --

English translation, from the source post: "We repeat the success from last year! And have decided to donate, not just one, but two eggs to our gay penguin couple Pondus and Herman Piele! They accepted the eggs with open wings, and Herman looks pretty proud, and ready to become a dad!"

This isn’t a unique situation, by the way:

Wow! I'm speechless... amazing photos. I love penguins, too - they always look so friendly and happy. I only watched some at the zoo years ago and they are just too cute.
The video took my breath away.
Thank you, my dear. I enjoyed this post every very much!
