At my last home (nineteen miles south of where I live now), I could often hear great horned owls calling "WHOO-OOH-OOH" late at night. They don't seem to be in this neighborhood, but I do hear a screech owl from time to time. And I've seen barn owls flying over a couple of times when I was out late.
