These are a few of my favorite things… from this year’s Rose Parade in Pasadena (part two)
Part one is here.
The theme of this year’s parade was “Echoes of Success.”
All of the floats in this parade are required to have all surfaces covered by natural materials, such as flowers, plants, seaweed, seeds, bark, vegetables, or nuts. For more, see the 2014 post Decorating parade floats, at my journal.

Lucy Pet Foundation’s float, “Lucy Pet’s Gnarly Crankin’ K-9 Wave Maker”
Winner of the Extraordinaire Trophy, for most spectacular float

At 126 feet long and 74 tons, the float, unsurprisingly, set two Guinness World Records, for both longest and heaviest float in the history of the Rose Parade. The tank contained 10,000 gallons of water for the eight dogs to surf on, and they had a ball!
Article, with story and in-depth profile of the Surfing Dogs
The video shows not only the surfin’ action, but also more of the decoration on the float, which is quite beautiful in itself.

Western Asset Management Company’s float, “Prosperity in the Wild”
Winner of the Directors’ Trophy, for outstanding artistic merit in design and floral presentation

Winner of the National Trophy, for best depiction of life in the U.S.A., past, present or future

This float is the tallest in the parade this year.
BONUS! A few fun links.
Many great shots here of the parade, including the people camping along the route the night before and enjoying the parade, and float viewing after the parade that evening:
